Twenty-eight varieties described by John McCloskey (1989, Metcalf, ed., Gold Coinage in the Americas). Two addition varieties of 1835 (1-D, 2-D) were identified by Harry Bass and reported to McCloskey in 1989. An additional rare variety of 1836 (7-F) was discovered by McCloskey in the summer of 1996 and reported in the John Reich Collector's Society Journal (11/1, July 1997).
